Fifteen Minutes and Fame is Their Game (ISU Mini-reviews)

Jersey Shore

I like Jersey Shore because it deals with grown and mature (so they think) men and woman living in a house together. But, the real reason I like this show is because they get to do whatever they want every night. They drink, go to bars, party, go to the beach, but they also have to work in The Shore Store in order to stay there the whole season. The thing I don't like about this show is that there's always drama between some of the house mates and the people they meet at bars, they get drunk and fight or they get drunk and say or do something somebody thinks is offensive, it's drama this and drama that. I don't recommend this show to thirteen 0r 14-year old children because they might get some bad ideas that could ruin their future. (ex. Get drunk and get arrested for under age drinking and or the crime they are being charged for)

Pee-Wee

I loved this movie, I thought it was really funny. Child like movies are always good to watch. I like this movie because it's about a grown man acting like he's still a little kid. The way he has giant utensils to eat with, big contraptions he's made to wake him up and make him breakfast, and the way he looks after his bike like it's the most expensive thing he owns. But, the best part about Pee-Wee is his laugh, even though it can be annoying at times, it makes me laugh whenever I hear it. I recommend everyone to watch this movie, it'll make you laugh. :)

Winnebago Man

There's a lot of things you could say about the Winnebago Man. My opinion is that it was all scripted, I don't think he was doing that because he was a frustrated old man who couldn't remember the lines THAT HE WROTE for the RV commercial. I think it was to be recorded that way and leaked for entertainment. I don't like how Jack Rebney acts like an angel when Ben Steinbauer first visits him, then acts like a total ass when he wants to reveal his "real self" to Ben for the second time. But, I do like the video of him "freaking out", I though it was funny, it's very entertaining to see people lashing out and swearing, I don't know why but it just is.

Bridalplasty

I think this is one of the stupidest shows ever. If a guy proposed to a girl, obviously he likes her for who she is and the way she looks. I don't see why those girls need to go on a "reality" TV show to get their fifteen minutes of fame by competing for plastic surgery (and their dream wedding) when they were already pretty to begin with. I think if you change the way you look, you won't be the same person you used to be. You will look and act different and your life will never be the way it used to. I don't like these kinds of shows because every girl that goes on it has a lame sob story for why they should win. It's so not worth my time.

Back to the Future

I like this movie because they made a time machine out if a car (Dalorean). You could go anywhere you wanted with a machine that travels threw time. I think it would be awesome to go back in the past or forward into the future, it would be an experience you wouldn't forget. This movie was pretty good, my favorite parts were when Marty used a guitar on Doc's amplifier and it blew up and when Biff was chasing Marty on his skateboard with his car and Biff crashed into a manure truck, bahaha so funny. Back to the Future is a great movie to watch, everyone who is anyone should watch it.

Medioke

Karaoke is where people have fun, sing and just act like a complete fool without anybody being criticised for how bad they sing. They are not sure when or where Karaoke emerged into society, but people seem to think that it started in Japan. In Japan Karaoke means "Empty Orchestra". Kara meaning empty, and oke meaning orchestra (in Japanese, oke comes from okesutora).

As far as my research goes, during the late 70's was when Karaoke was at it's height in popularity and has died down due to the development of Karaoke being available to bring home a few years later. Karaoke went form cassette tapes, to CDs, toVCDs, to laserdiscs, then to DVDs (which then lead to video games for PlayStation 2 & 3, XBox 360, ect...)

Karaoke doesn't have important artists that impacted this genre because everyone who does it is an artist of their own.

The only way I can really describe Karaoke is "freestyle", they sing in their own way without being judged for singing horribly. The instruments they use are a microphone(s), instrumental music and or a screen depending on which type of machine they are using.

The people that sing Karaoke see the world as a way to express themselves freely without being embarrassed, to be and feel the way they want to. They just go out to sing and have a good time with friends and family, they choose a song and sing their hearts out.

Remix Your Life

I think that if you manipulate an existing song enough, you should be able to claim it as your own. And that's because I heard that you can use any song you want and you won't be charged for copyright as long as it's NOT more than 20 seconds long. But I also think you should be able to create music using other artist's music as long as you have permission from them.

Myspace and music blogs haven't changed my chances of being a successful musician because I never wanted to become a famous singer, and plus I can't sing what so ever. But if I was a good singer, then it would effect my life greatly. My talent would be on the Internet for the whole world to see and it would get me that much closer to my goal of being known by everyone.

I don't think the penalties for copyright are fair at all and they make absolutely no sense. If you get caught, then you should pay them what the song would cost, not over $50.000 a song or whatever they would charge. The penalties were not originally meant for the average citizen. It was meant for all the famous people who think they can take someones song and use it as there own whether they change it up or not. I'm not sure what would be a fair copyright infringement law. Maybe charge the downloader twice as much as the song would cost, and they would have to promote for the artist every way they can to get them more fans. Ex Facebook, twitter, post flyer around town, etc...

My thoughts on the film RIP! were positive, I think it was a good subject to make a documentary on. They explained how copyright works and that even the documentary would be considered copyright. I like how Brett Gaylor followed Girl Talk around, went to their concerts and interviewed them about their music and how they felt about the copyright lawsuit that could be thrust upon them. The arguments they made we're fairly sufficient. It's not like they're taking a whole song, selling it and saying that it's their own music. There should be limits to how copyright would be considered illegal in the world of media. Yes, I enjoyed it very much, but the best part was the at the end during the credits, he put in the remix video of The Colbert Report saying he didn't want that interview to me remixed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CvvhDngERXo

Silent film.

I personally think that silent films can be considered good, even now. I think black and white films are great, they make the movie look more authentic and vintage looking, as if you were looking at something that really happened. Like the feeling you get when you look at one of your grandparents old black and white pictures when they were younger, and you wonder what it would be like if you were there and you got to experience the same thing they did.

'Citizen Kane' was a pretty good movie for it's time. I liked it, but I don't think this generation will appreciate it like the people in the past have. Silent Films were the first movies ever made and they are a part of our history. Without them, we wouldn't have the technologically advanced equipment for making the movies we have today. It doesn't matter how many years go by, they will always be here for us to watch whether people like them or not.

'The Great Train Robbery' was one of the better silent films we watched in class. The way they put it together, cross cutting and colouring in some scenes. The people who made it should be proud of what they did for film making in it's time of glory. And the third best silent film we watched in class was 'The Sprinkler Sprinkled'. It was a very memorable comedy.

New Shoes :)

Paolo Nutini 1. It presents reality by telling you that if you put on something new after you wake up late, it'll make you feel better and maybe people will like you more and think you're 'cool'. It shows that sometimes all teens need to do to feel good is to have a party and everyone will have a good time. 2. Reality is presented in this video as real life. People sleep in, buy new things and wear them, and they party and hang out with friends, I don't know how that wouldn't be reality. 3. The stereotype they use in the video is the typical one camera angle. It's always in front of the artist of the band or singer having their face or body in the middle of the shot/screen. 4. The values they use in this video are telling the viewers that it's OK to throw out your old shoes, buy new ones, start walking in the middle of the street and come home to your friends who through you a party without you knowing. 5. It could appeal to teenagers by telling them it's alright to go out and party and what will get you through it all, is a pair of shoes. 6. I think it's a good music video, it's simple and didn't cost alot like other artists music video's would have, eg 30 Seconds to Mars' video 'From Yesterday' that cost 13 million dollars. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hmbUNF1Q4R8

Media

1. I believe that media is very important in my life. I rely on it everyday to get all my entertainment and news. It keeps me up to date on everything that goes on around the world.

2. Music: I can't get through a day without a beat in my head. It helps me concentrate on my school work.

Tv: It's important to me because I know it's there when I have nothing else to do. It helps me to not be bored.

Computer: It's important to me because it's how I interact with my friends when I'm not at school. It's also a way I can talk to people I know who don't live in Canada.

3. No, I don't like our modern pop culture. I liked it better the way it used to be, with all the old classics that we had on TV and the radio. They've taken our media to the point where its making us lazy, soon we'll be in a world where we will be relying on machines to do everything for us and we won't even have to lift a finger. The only types of media I use daily is TV, Internet, radio, Ipod, and cellphone, I use them to entertain myself during the day when I'm not with my friends.

4. 1) I guess I'll choose TV as my form of media that I have a passionate connection to. This show I watch actually mean something to me, they show me stories of everyday life situations that could or have already happened to someone and they sing about it. E.g. Glee, they show you a "gay" guy getting bullied in school for his sexuality and that others have a hard time to accept it. Also it deals with relationships and rivalry between both students and teachers. I love Sci-Fi, it shows everyone that anything can be possible, one day we will live on other planets and I just hope that I'll be alive to see it happen. E.g. of traveling and living on other planets, Dr. Who and Firefly. This is going in the opposite direction, but I have a strong passionate connection to hating flat screen TVs. I find them dumb and expensive, I don't see the problem in having a normal sized TV to watch all your favorite programs on. It hasn't changed or influenced who I am, I just use this type of media to keep myself entertained.

2) I don't exactly know how to answer this, sorry.

3) a) I'd choose every series of Doctor Who ever to be made because it's Sci-fi and it's one of my favorite shows.
b) I'd also bring my Ipod because I couldn't go a day without listening to music or singing a song in my head
c) And the last thing I'd bring is a computer so I could watch all the Doctor Who episodes and so I could charge my Ipod when it dies.

(There's a flaw in your Desert Island Mr. Edwards. If its a desert island, then there is no electricity, so technically we couldn't use any type of media that involves using power.)
